14 days Sumatra Splendid tour


(An overland Sumatra tour starting from North to West Coast of Sumatra and closing with leisure on beautiful white sandy beach)


Day 1
Arrive in Medan with flight ...at...We will fetch you from the airport and transfer Madani or similar, located in the centre of Medan for overnight stay. Here you can rest after long journey or walk in the nearby area.

Day 2
Medan - City tour - Bohorok/Bukit Lawang. In the morning you can do city tour in Medan. You can visit the beautiful mix architectures of Maimoon palace built in 1888 by the Sultan of Deli (former name of Medan) Sultan Mahmood Al Rashid. Then a visit to Grand Mosque "Mesjid Raya" built in 1906 where you can see its interesting ornaments, to Chinese and Hindu temples. As one of the most important cities during Dutch colonial time, you can see also colonial architectural touch in building likes: the Post office, the old City Hall, Central bank, etc. Before we depart to Bohorok we will make a short visit to Asam Kumbang crocodile farm. Here you can see crocodiles from different sizes and ages. In the afternoon we proceed to Bohorok/Bukit Lawang, the orangutans rehabilitation centre. The journey leads you past the scenic rubber and palm oil plantations. Overnight stay in Eco Lodge Bukit Lawang Cottages, located directly on the bank of Bohorok river.

Day 3
Bohorok - see the Sumatran orangutans at the feeding area. After breakfast, we will walk for around 45 minutes at the side of Bohorok river to the orangutans feeding area. Prior to arrival at rehabilitation centre you have to cross the river by small wooden canoe. Then do a short climbing through the tropical rainforest at the slope of Mt. Leuser. Watching the part ranger feeds the orangutans. It is suggested to have comfortable sportive shoes. On your way back to hotel, enjoy picnic lunch with jungle bath (optional) at Elephant stone. The rest of the day free at your own program. Overnight stay in Eco Lodge Bukit Lawang Cottages.

Day 4
Bohorok - Brastagi. After breakfast we depart to Brastagi via Medan. Brastagi is a mountain resort in the Karo Highland that surroundings with 2 active volcanoes, Sibayak and Sinabung. Before we arrive in hotel, you can also make a stop at fruits market. Overnight stay in hotel Grand Mutiara or Brastagi Cottages in Brastagi.

Day 5
Brastagi - Samosir island. In the morning you will visit Dokan, a traditional batak Karonese village. Here you can observe traditional houses of the tribe & daily activities of the villagers. After that depart to Lake Toba. En route we can stops at the Sipiso-piso waterfall with its splendid view over the lake Toba & resorted Royal Palace of King Purba at Pematang Purba. You can also make couple stops at local farms such as pineapple, ginger & coffee plantations that belong to the local farmers. In the afternoon you will arrive in Parapat at the lake Toba, from where you embark the ferry to cross the lake to Samosir island. Overnight stay in hotel Toledo Inn or  Samosir Cottages, both are located on the lake side.

Day 6
Samosir - tour on this island. Today we will make excursion to several Batak Toba villages on this island. First we will visit Simanindo village where you can see a performance of traditional Batak Toba dances, then to Ambarita village where you can hear the interesting legend of  megalithic cultural objects.
From Ambarita you can enjoy scenic view over Lake Toba from Sigarantung view while drink a cup of hot coffee/tea (OPTIONAL).  After that we go to Tomok to visit the noble cemetery of King Sidabutar in Tomok.  During the excursion you will have a chance to walk & see the way of life of the local Batak Toba tribe. Overnight stay in hotel Toledo Inn or hotel Silintong. Your room has beautiful view to the lake Toba.

Day 7
Samosir island - Padang Sidempuan. After breakfast we cross the lake back to Parapat. Drive along the southern shores of lake Toba with its lovely ricefields and huge Batak graves. On the way you can make a stop at the traditional hand weaving village of Jangga Toru. Here local women make Ulos cloth still in traditional way. At noon we will arrive in Tarutung, centre of the Protestant Batak church. Thereafter we continue driving through the Bukit Barisan mountanical ridge until Padang Sidempuan. Overnight stay in hotel Natama in Padang Sidempuan.

Day 8
Padang Sidempuan - Bukittinggi. The route to Bukittinggi in the Minangkabau Highlands bring you again right through the Bukit Barisan mountainical ridge of Sumatra. It is an remarkable tour in which you will drive through the road bordered on both sides by wall of impenetrable tropical rain forest with up and down windy route. En route you can stop at a nature reserve called Rimbo Panti for observing the charming flora and fauna and herbarium. Bonjol with its equator monument. Do not forget! you just passed through the equator line. Late in the afternoon you will arrive in Bukittinggi in the heart of Minangkabau highlands. Overnight stay in hotel Campago or similar in Bukittinggi.

Day 9
Bukittinggi - city tour. Today we will make a sight seeing in Bukittinggi. Starting with "Fort de Kock fortress", situated on a strategic point of Bukittinggi. Then to the famous "Ngarai Sianok", Japanese cave, museum, the colorful market and the hand weaving village of Pandai Sikat. Afternoon free at your own program to scroll this pleasant and cool city of Bukittinggi. Overnight stay in hotel Campago or similar in Bukittinggi.

Day 10
Bukittinggi. Full day tour to the natural and cultural objects such as: Tabek Patah with its beautiful Panorama, Sungai Tarab a unique village with traditional coffee mills with turbine generated by flowing water, Batusangkar is considered the centre of Minangkabau culture that has some historical remains of stone tablets with ancient Hindu scrip, Pagaruyung is the cultural highlight of the visit with its Buffalo horn shape beautiful Minangkabau palace. Balimbing village that still has some old houses dated back to couple centuries ago. On your return to Bukittinggi, make a stop at the coast of Lake Singkarak. Overnight stay in hotel Campago or similar in Bukittinggi.

Day 11
Bukittinggi - Lake Maninjau. After breakfast we leave Bukittinggi to Koto Gadang the silver village of West Sumatra province. From Koto Gadang, we continue the tour to Embun pagi, a place to enjoy the fresh air mist and beautiful view over Lake Maninjau surrounded by green hills. You can also make a stop at Lawang village famous for its sugar cane products. The processing of sugar cane is still in traditional way. After that we descend to the lake Maninjau passing its 44 curves. Lake Maninjau is one of the most treasured and worth while place to visit in West Sumatra. The rest of the day free at your own leisure. You can walk to the surrounding areas, rest or swim in this beautiful calm and clean lake. Overnight stay in a simple accommodation on shore of lake Maninjau, named hotel Pasir Panjang Permai. Your room has beautiful view to the lake.

Day 12
Maninjau - Sikuai island. Today we depart to Padang, the capital city of West Sumatra province. Padang is well known for its spicy cuisine that you should not miss to try. En route to Padang you can stop at Anai valley and Anai waterfall. Upon arrival in Padang we proceed to the harbor for your departure to Sikuai island, around 30 minutes by boat from harbor of Padang. Here you will stay for 2 nights in a beach resort named hotel Sikuai as the closing of your tour.

Day 13
Sikuai island. Free at your own leisue to enjoy the exotic beach of Sikuai island. A perfect place to relax, sunbathing, swimming, snorkeling or diving. The choice is yours.

Day 14
Sikuai island - airport of Padang. After breakfast we take you back to Padang by boat again. Upon arrival we proceed to the airport for your flight to next destination. End of your tour with us.
